The Director General of the Somalia Data Protection Authority (DPA) participated in the Executive Committee meeting of the Islamic Data Protection Authority (IDPA), held in Marrakesh, Kingdom of Morocco. The meeting brought together heads and senior representatives of data protection authorities from IDPA member states, of which Somalia is a key member.
Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation among Islamic countries in the field of data protection, sharing experiences and expertise, advancing international and Islamic data protection standards, and addressing emerging challenges related to modern technologies and information security.
During the meeting, the Director General highlighted the strong commitment of the Federal Government of Somalia to implementing data protection legislation, establishing an effective and independent data protection authority, and aligning national practices with international and Islamic standards for the protection of personal data.
The Executive Committee also discussed strategic plans to enhance collaboration among IDPA member authorities, increase public awareness of data protection rights, and support countries in the process of establishing and developing their data protection institutions.
